Psychotherapy
Realising and then acknowledging there is an issue is the first vital step to healing. This may result from an event such as bereavement, divorce or loss of work. It could also be from an illness, condition or physical accident which has resulted in limitations or change. Facing retirement, moving location and parenthood are just some life changing events that can also unsettle equilibrium. Experiences from childhood and throughout life can scar and marr, affecting current relationships. Life choices that seemed the best thing at the time may return to haunt us later.
Psychotherapy is available individually to children or adults as well as to couples and groups. Each weekly session is 50 minutes in duration by prior arrangement at my consulting rooms. Children’s sessions are usually half the length of an adult, according to age. Couples and group sessions are usually double and therefore held fortnightly. The minimum therapy contract is three months.
I conduct a full and complete assessment with each new client(s) prior to the commencement of any work. This Initial Assessment lasts one and a half to two hours and is a stand alone consultation. We together establish and agree the areas of work to be covered and how best to tackle them, thus setting a framework for future sessions.
Increasingly I have experienced a client approach me for psychotherapy and following the Initial Assessment, we discover that Life Coaching is a more appropriate intervention. A considerable number of clients also begin with one type of intervention and then, as appropriate, change to the other - flexibility!
